Step 1

Planting consultation

The first step in the Planting Solutions consultation is the site inspection where I will assess the site with you to clarify what the specific function, feel or theme you want for your garden. And to look at layout possibilities of the garden beds and plants.

Step 2

Garden plan

Then I will draw up a plan of the garden beds in relation to the site to give us a starting point to work from.

Step 3

Garden design

Next, I will spend some time going through my categorised plant list to choose possible suitable plants, and add in Garden Design ideas into the plan.

Step 4

Garden theme

Once I have selected plants for each garden bed, then I will go through the suggested plants (and some possible alternatives) with you to show you pictures of what the possible plants look like. This part of the consultation helps greatly in ensuring that the suggested plants are not just suitable for the site, but are also plants that you like and give you the feel, theme and function you want for your garden.
At this stage, I encourage you to take photos of the plants so that you immediately have your own record of all the plants.

Step 5

Garden layout

Once we have chosen the plants that fit your requirements, John will work out the layout of all the plants for the garden onto the plan and put together a list of these plants so that you receive a keyed plan that corresponds to the plant list. This plant list also includes the size at maturity of the plants so you can be confident about the size that the plants will grow too.
The plant list will also include quantities of each plant required so that it is easy to order the plants.

Step 6

Planting layout

Finally, John will run through the planting plan and the plant lists with you to clarify the plant selection and layout. At this point we will make any adjustments to the plan and plant lists to ensure that the plan you receive meets your approval.
Step 7
John will give you a voucher that gives you a 10% discount off your plant purchase from Nielsens Native Nursery at Loganholme. Nielsens are a large Garden Centre that specializes in native plants, but also sell the full range of exotic and fruiting plants.

Step 1

Your details

• Photos of site, including relevant surrounding structures or trees.
• Basic drawing with measurements (Go to 'Plan Drawing Tips' page)
• Number garden beds for easy reference.
• All requirements of what you want e.g. (tropical or native etc)
• Your name, address and phone number.
• Best time for John to call.

Step 2

Assessment

• John will assess your information and call you to clarify details and theme for your garden areas.

Step 3

Garden estimate

• With this information John will estimate how long the garden design will take.
• John will send you a fixed quote for the job.

Step 4

Starting the job

• Deposit of 50% of the job is required before John will start the job. (credit card payment over the phone)

Step 5

The right plants

John will work out the plants for your garden and make a plant list (includes the size at maturity of the plants) and enter plant codes onto the plan to show which plants go where.

Step 6

Planting plans

John will email you;
• Several 3D perspective views of your garden design.
• Top down plan drawing with plant legend.
• Plant list that shows mature height + width of each plant.
• Photo of each plant.

Step 7

Ready-set-plant

• John will call you to clarify that the plan and plants meet your approval.
• John will update plant list and pictures with other possibilities if certain plants are not desired, as it is important that you are satisfied that you are getting the right plants for your garden.
• Final 50% payment to be processed. (credit card payment over the phone)

For on-site visits all of the 7 steps above are done on-site in the 1 visit to your site.

Most other designers seem to require 2 or 3 visits to your site before the full Garden Design is complete.

I prefer to keep it to 1 visit because I don't need to do several visits to justify my fee.

I can do all of the Garden Design in 1 visit, so that is what I do.

By doing the whole Garden Design in 1 visit keeps the cost to you to a minimum and I am able to ask you any questions during the consultation as I need to, and if I need to re- look at the garden or measurements, its just a matter of walking out to the garden to do that.

So the whole process is better efficiency of my time and therefore the cost to you.
